Unit 5 Problem

Some of our friends found it confusing to solve this problem.

the problem is given below; 

Two cylinders A and B rest in a channel as shown in diagram. 

A has a diameter of 100 mm and 20KN weight

B has a diameter of 180 mm and 50KN weight

The channel is 180 mm wide.

Find the reactions at the points of contact.

solution to this is given below;

(Triangle abd and cbd are symmetrical and hence the angle)
